Welcome to Mrs. Nilsson's Music Homepage! Please click on my class links for calendars, homework, and other information.
Orff and Choir, for grades 3-6, will perform their Winter Concerts on Thursday, December 10th, 2009, in the church next door to Sand Lake. Choir will also perform at the Dimond Area Choir Festival in the Dimond High School gym on Tuesday, November 17th, 2009. These performing ensembles meet before school in the music room for an hour each week: Orff on Wednesdays at 8am, and Choir on Thursdays at 8am. Due to our school reconstruction, we expect to do all of our performances in settings outside of school this year, so members should expect to do a lot of local traveling. Parent involvement will be a necessity. The first rehearsal for Orff will be on Sept. 16th, and the first rehearsal for Choir will be on Sept. 17th.
I work to build children's confidence in themselves as active music participants. We sing, chant, dance, and play instruments in a variety of musical styles. I choose to teach using the Orff process, and I enjoy integrating music with literature and with other subjects. My goal is that children joyfully experience the rich variety of activities music has to offer. Parents are welcome to observe my classes and participate with their children. If you feel inspired to volunteer, please call or email me at any time. My number at Sand Lake is 243-2161.
During the 2009-10 school year, we will have another music teacher in addition to myself, Mr. John Huffaker. Mr. Huffaker is here to help accomodate our high number of students at Sand Lake. He returns to us after a year at Northwood Elementary. Mr. Huffaker is an experienced drummer, and this year will also work as a traveling orchestra teacher. He will be here on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I will be teaching full time, all week long, as well. My main instrument is voice, but I also play flute and have enjoyed studying many kinds of instruments. We look forward to seeing you this year.
Sincerely, Annie Nilsson
