Hello. Welcome to the CSF Transition Counselor page. The CSF classroom accepts students in grades 1, 2, and 3 from Southside and Westside schools. Please visit the CSF webpage accessed from the ASD home page.
All CSF students are introduced to Kelso's Choices, Pumsy, Cool Cat, and Sparky - Kelso's choices teaches how to solve a small problem (situations
that are annoying but not threatening) such as friends not sharing, name calling, being left out and misunderstandings. These choices
1. Ignore the behavior,
2. Talk it out with the person,
3. Make a deal with the person where you both get something you want,
4. Go to another game or place if people are not being fair or not including you,
5. Share and Take Turns,
6. Walk Away,
7. Kindly ask the person to stop,
9. Wait and Cool Off before doing anything.
Encouraging your children to use these strategies at home will provide them opportunities to practice and improve their skills. Also if
you have techniques that work please share them with your children. Children who can solve their own small problems feel empowered
and are more likely to try again.
Pumsy teaches students they are in charge of how they feel and how they act.
Cool Cat teaches students they can handle conflicts in a safe and respectful manner.
Sparky teaches students that how they treat others is important. It is most helpful to treat others with kindness and to try to "fill buckets" with our words and gestures.
