Read on to learn about my job as the Career Guide at CMSS.

 

Using  money for education from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Anchorage School District has funded a Career Guide

position at each middle school.  As Central's Career Guide, I will be developing a

career awareness program that will benefit all students.  This year, students at Central will take a 70-question self-assessment inventory aimed at

targeting their interests and areas of strength to learn more about

themselves and to spark interest in future career options.  Students will be introduced to the 16 Career Clusters and begin learning about different

career pathways.

 

With support from teachers, counselors, and administrators, I will administer ACT's EXPLORE Assessment to 8th graders the week of  November

8th.  This assessment evaluates students' skill levels in English, math,

reading, and science.  Upon receipt of the EXPLORE Assessment results in January, I will work with students to analyze and understand their

scores and teach them how to align them with careers that may be of interest

to them.  Students will be given opportunities to explore various occupations within the career clusters so that they will be ready to make informed

choices when planning their high school course work.
