Program Overview: The AK-20041 Air Force Junior ROTC Cadet corps was formally established at South Anchorage High School on 1 August 2004 by agreement between the Anchorage School District and the United States Air Force. Over the last five years, our unit has been nationally recognized by the Air Education and Training Command with the Distinguished Unit Award. An accolade that directly ties to the level of committment, dedication, and achievement your students have consistently exhibited.
AFJROTC curriculum includes instruction in aerospace sciences, leadership, management, organization, space exploration and the history of air power while enhancing the interpersonal and communication skills of the cadets. The Senior Aerospace Science Instructor (SASI) and the Aerospace Science Instructor (ASI) are retired Air Force personnel with extensive backgrounds in professional education and Air Force training. The cadet corps will be managed and operated by cadet commissioned and noncommissioned officers, with guidance from the SASI and ASI. Our "Group" level cadet organization, mirrors the active duty structure. Cadets will learn to develop leadership skills and chartacteristics through their direct, hands-on ownership of planned operations and activities.
Each cadet was issued a cadet guide which contains policy guidance, requirements, and rules of conduct for AFJROTC cadets at South Anchorage High School. Each cadet is required to study this guide and will be held responsible for its contents on examination. Remember that it is only a guide and not a substitute for initiative, common sense and good judgment.
The Mission of AFJROTC is to "Develop Citizens of Character Dedicated to Serving ther Nation and Community." The Mission of the "Wolverine" Group (AK-20041) is to assist cadets to strive to be role models in the Anchorage School District through school and community service. This Corps will provide them with guided leadership experiences and will allow the cadets to become knowledgeable citizens by providing experiences unlike any other high school class.
The 2009/2010 curiculm will include: Aerospace Science II - Dynamics and theory of flight. By the end of the second year, cadets will have a solid understanding of the principles of flight, including the concepts of lift and the difference between various propulsion systems. Leadership Education I and Leadership Lab - Leadership Lab is taught by the Aerospace Science Instructor (ASI). Emphasis is placed on US government, civics, fitness/wellness, military procedures, drill, goal setting and corps management. Additionally, cadet interaction and operational program management will aid in developing leadership, team building, problem solving, constructive self-analysis and situational awareness.
The primary source of information and listing of upcoming events will be contained in our public website located at www.ak-20041.com. Please use this site as your primary source of information gathering.
I would like to congratulate the cadets on their choice to be a part of this program and helping us succeed in our endeavor to run one of the finest junior ROTC units in the country, and with your dedication and commitment, we will.
