Thanks for stopping by my webpage! This picture shows my husband, son, and I enjoying some intense sunshine at The Painted Hills in Central Oregon. Ironically, the day before we had been at Crater Lake where we stood in 8 inches of fresh snow.
Gruening Middle School is such a fabulous place to be! This marks my 7th year at Gruening and my 17th year in the profession - all at the middle school level.
At anytime throughout the quarter, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions. Email is best (lutes_loi@asdk12.org), but you can also call 742-3610 (sometimes emails get blocked by the district).
This web page has the potential to be a wonderful resource for students and parents....but only if it gets used.
I work really hard at keeping this website and ZANGLE updated. However, because of the way life is, there are times I will grade in bunches, so you will notice several grades get entered at one time.
FOR SCIENCE - Students will receive 2 late passes per quarter and 2 hall passes per quarter. I keep track of how many a student has used, so misuse will earn the student a minimum of a detention.
FOR 7th GRADERS AND PARENTS - All too often, I have seen parents take the approach of, "He's (the student) in middle school, I'm going to let him get it figured out." I'm here to ask you as parents to hold off on that philosophy for a minimum of one quarter. The adjustment between 6th grade (primarily one teacher) to 7th (6-7 teachers in a day), plus sports/after school activities, PLUS hormones is hard. It might not seem that way at first, but by mid-way through the 1st quarter, it's not uncommon for a new 7th grader to feel overwhelmed and not sure how to balance it all. Checking your student's planner on a regular (more than once a week) and talking through different projects and upcoming due dates will greatly help that overwhelmed state not be so scary. Keep encouraging your student to learn each teacher's procedures in their classrooms. Believe it or not - the more they can describe the procedures to you, the more confidence they will have in the classroom actually doing those procedures.
