Hello! Welcome to my classroom. I am very excited to be teaching at Government Hill Elementary this year. My husband
Gavin, and
our three children, Nehemiah, Evelyn, and Lilyan, were relocated to Alaska in October 2005 with the United States Air Force. I
am
originally from Iowa and miss home, but love this beautiful state.
I am a graduate of Peru State College in Peru, NE. I have a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary and Middle School
Education with endorsements in Language Arts and Social Studies. My passion is teaching and I truly enjoy spending my life
devoted to working with and for children. I am ready to work with families and students to make this year a positive experience
for everyone involved.

I am a big Language Arts person so I will have a lot of really fun writing activities that will help students reach Anchorage
Grade Level Expectations, and will make the student more confident in their abilities as young writers.
The Houghton Mifflin Reading Program is the program I will use this year and includes spelling, and grammar as well. It is very
in-depth and will
be new and exciting for all of us to learn and grow as proficient readers as the year progresses. I will also send home reading
homework every night. Reading fluency is vital for all students to be successful, so read with your student thirty minutes a
night, or discuss a great book with him or her. Encourage reading and you will inspire learning.

I feel that communication is vital to the success of each student. Therefore, I will send home letters periodically and I will post
homework on this site to help stay in touch with families. I will also respond to emails and phone calls as soon as possible. I
feel education in my classroom is best when I am supported at home. Please, feel free to contact me with questions, concerns
or anything that you feel is pertinent to your students learning needs.

Thank you for this opportunity to teach and work with you and your student this year. I am very excited, and hope to hear
from each of you.
