Mr. Shumway was born and grew up in Anchorage. He graduated from Western Washington University with a Bachelors of Science in Biology with minors in Mathematics and Chemistry. After graduation, Mr. Shumway spent three years working on the North Slope as a Field Microbiologist and Corrosion Mitigation Specialist. After this experience Mr. Shumway spent two years at the University of Alaska earning a Masters Degree and an Alaska State Teaching Certificate. He spent his summers during this time working as a seasonal fisheries biologist for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Mr. Shumway began teaching in Anchorage in 1993. He has taught grades 8 – 12, at East Anchorage High School and Central Middle School. Mr. Shumway loves living in Alaska. He enjoys mountain climbing, running, skiing, river rafting, scuba diving, fly fishing and hunting. Mr. Shumway is a licensed pilot and has over 1000 hours flying small aircraft over the Alaskan backcountry. Mr. Shumway loves teaching and welcomes you to his class!
