Welcome to Kindergarten and Willow Crest Elementary!
I'm very excited to be spending this year teaching and sharing my passion for education at Willow Crest. This is my second year teaching Kindergarten for the Anchorage School District.
Prior to teaching I spent 6 years training Alaskan Huskies for racing in the Iditarod.
Despite not having any human children (I have 2 dogs that are pretty close to kids for me!), when I completed the Iditarod in 2006 I witnessed many correlation's to raising a child.
The opportunity to watch my dogs be born and mature enough to make it to the starting line of the race felt much like I can imagine it must feel to raise a child and see them start their
first day of Kindergarten. Along the trail I nurtured and guided my dogs through both exciting, and trying times. Watching them learn and grow checkpoint by checkpoint I can see the
similarities with their growth to your child’s progression through our school grade by grade. Finally, crossing the burled arch in Nome, the finish line of the Iditarod, I felt the elation, pride
and satisfaction that you’ll feel as your child graduates.
Just as I nurtured my dogs and guided them along the Iditarod Trail I hope to spend this year nurturing your child and guiding them
along a path that will lead to continued success.
Throughout the school year our class will be going on field trips and working on several long term cumulative projects. I strongly encourage your participation in these events and
welcome you to share your passions and areas of expertise as accessory teachers through the whole school year. I value your involvement in the education or your child. As the first
teacher in your child’s life you are an invaluable tool that I will draw upon to best meet the needs of your child.
With the many varied schedules we all maintain, I make myself available through many modes. My door is open before school starts and and after school is complete for the day. You
are always welcome to call during the school day and leave a message with our front desk, but one of the fastest ways to contact me and get a response during the school day is through
