Why Travel & Tourism?
Tourism is the largest industry in the world! In Alaska, it accounts for one in eight jobs and is the second-largest private sector employer.
The Travel & Tourism program provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful careers in this fast growing industry. Students are prepared for entry level positions with airlines, airport operations, tour companies, conventions and meetings, the cruise industry, and the lodging industry.
Topics covered in the training program include the following:
* Tourism in Alaska
* Sectors of travel & tourism
* Personal marketing
* Travel sales & customer service
In addition, students learn business basics and core skills such as written and verbal communication.
Alaska is like no other place. It has more mountains, glaciers, and wildlife than just about anywhere else in the world. Students in the Travel & Tourism program have the opportunity to earn a Social Studies, Alaska Studies and an elective credit while getting out of the classroom and experiencing first hand the rich cultures, history, and geography of this amazing state.
