Dear Parents or Guardians:
I am honored to have your child in one of my classes this year, and I am excited to work with you and your child throughout the year. I am looking forward to having a successful and productive year. I look forward to being a part of the academic progress your child will make. In the letter I have put together some information to help you and your child become more familiar with my expectations for the school year. Please take a day or two to read through this information and then sign your name, list your email and a good phone number for future contact next to your childss signature. If you have any questions or concerns now or throughout the year please feel free to contact me at 742-3600 ext (3678) between 7:45- 8:50, 11:45-12:10, and after school. I believe in cooperative learning in the classroom. In the study skills/Language settings students will be given the opportunity to work in small groups and in pairs where the ability levels vary so they may help each other in the learning process. Research has shown that students do better when they are allowed to discuss the ideas they have learned. Also working in groups helps students learn important social skills they will need throughout life. *Students will be expected to participate in group activities, do work to reach their IEP goals, read silently, aloud, and independently to improve comprehension, also complete writing assignment, and take notes.*
**Breaks should be used wisely to get drinks and use the restroom, passes to the restroom will not be given the first ten minutes of class or the last 10 minutes of class.**
Classroom Expectations: Be on time Be respectful to others Bring supplies to class Maintain a safe environment Follow directions the first time they are given Cell phones should be turned off during class All other school rules apply
Grading Scale A=90% and above B=80% and above C=70% and above D=60% and above F= 59% and below
Sincerely, Peggy Berner Berner_peggy@asdk12.org 742-3600 ext-3678, Room 210
