I'm a school psychologist within Anchorage School District. So, what is a School Psychologist? School psychologists help children and adolescents foster social- emotional as well as academic success. We collaborate with educators and parents to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and community settings. School psychologists are highly trained in psychology and education, completing a minimum of a specialist-level degree program. Our training emphasizes child development, mental health, cognition and learning, psycho-educational appraisal, and educational interventions. The State of Alaska Department of Education and Early Development certify school psychologists. Additionally, school psychologists may obtain a national credential through the National School Psychology Certification Board. Beyond serving neighborhood schools, I have gained valuable experience practicing within Montessori, Spanish immersion, and therapeutic day schools. Before moving to Alaska, I had nearly a decade of experience working for Chicago area schools. I earned his bachelorís degree at Southern Illinois University and doctorate at National Louis University; where I was interested in mindfulness as well as environmental citizenship. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy the outdoors and a good cup of coffee.
