MELISSA CHISHAM

Welcome to Preschool at Kasuun Elementary Hello! My name is Melissa Chisham. I will be your child's teacher this year. This is my third year teaching at Kasuun. In the past, I have taught Pre-school at private Child Development Centers and recently graduated UAA with a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Special Education. My family moved to Anchorage in 2007 when both my husband and I took a job working at Ted Stevens International Airport as aircraft mechanics. My husband, Rick, now works for Guardian Life Flight as an aircraft mechanic. My son, William, attends 8th grade Japanese immersion at Mears Middle School and enjoys karate and Boy Scout outings. I have some new goals I would like to incorporate this year. One of which is to have more outside activities. I would also like to focus on positive behavior support and emotional recognition skills. Identifying and managing behavior has a large impact on personal and social growth. I believe that team collaboration with families and staff members is the best practice for quality early childhood education. My objective is to actively teach skills that promote social, emotional, and academic growth through art, circle time, and play. Our classroom Teaching Assistant (T.A.), Cathy Bixby, has been here at Kasuun as a T.A in Pre-School for seven years. Cathy and her husband have two adult children. Cathy has a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Western Washington University. I am lucky to have her wisdom and experience in our classroom!
