Internet Guidelines, Version 2.1

4 - Building Technology Contacts

Each school needs a technology contact person (or persons) to interact with Information Technology in each of the areas listed below.  The name(s) of the contact person(s) will be maintained by the Help Desk.  Schools are responsible for providing current information.

4.1

E-mail Contact

  This person is usually the technology coordinator/contact for the building.  Schools without technology coordinators may wish to consider teachers, librarians or other technologically adept staff members.  This person would agree to:
 

4.1.1

Obtain signed Internet and Electronic Communications Staff Agreement forms for new accounts and forward them to the Help Desk.  A copy should remain on file in the school/department.
  4.1.2   Request the creation and deletion of staff e-mail accounts.
  4.1.3   Distribute information pertinent to e-mail policies and procedures to building staff.

4.2

Network Contact

  This person is usually the technology coordinator/contact for the building.  Schools without technology coordinators may wish to consider teachers, librarians or other technologically adept staff members.  This person would agree to:
  4.2.1   Assist in connecting computers to the District network.
  4.2.2   Allocate IP addresses as needed.
  4.2.3   Act as local resource to answer questions, assist with procedures and troubleshoot.
  4.2.4   Make all contacts and requests for assistance and/or repair, etc. with IT and works with the Help Desk to troubleshoot problems.

4.3

Web Page Contact

  This person is usually the technology coordinator for the building.  Schools without technology coordinators may wish to consider teachers, librarians or other technologically adept staff members. This person would agree to:
  4.3.1   Oversee the maintenance of school or department web pages.
  4.3.2   Act as local resource to answer questions, assist with procedures and troubleshoot.
  4.3.3   Serve as point of contact on the school’s or departments main web page.
  4.3.4   Manage FTP account for school or department’s web pages.

4.4

VAX/Alpha Contact

  The VAX/Alpha contact person must be the curriculum principal at the high school level, the principal or registrar at the middle school level, and the principal or administrative assistant at the elementary level.  Administrators must contact Data Processing to request new VAX/Alpha accounts.  This person would agree to:
  4.4.1   Identifies and reports VAX/Alpha problems to the ISC at Information Technology.
  4.4.2   Works with Information Technology staff to troubleshoot problems and identify them as program, hardware or network related.
