Web Publishing in the ASD

Getting an Account

The Anchorage School District provides space on its web server to all schools, departments, and employees within the District. The most common types of pages that we have on the District server are listed below:

Schools and Departments
If your school or department does not have a web site and you would like to set one up, contact the webmaster to discuss your options. If your school or department already has a web site and you want to contribute to it, first talk to your school or department webmaster. He or she will determine the next step.

Special Projects
If you would like to promote a project that doesn't fit neatly into one department's or school's site, we can set up a separate site for that project. It will still be required to adhere to the guidelines below. A good example is the Schools New and Renewed Project.

Staff/Employees
The Anchorage School District offers space on its web site to employees and students of the District for educational purposes. Historically, we have provided space for personal web pages; that is, pages not related to the District or educational. However, because of the number of students and employees that we serve, we must now ask the pages of a purely personal nature NOT be placed on the District web server. There are many, many other options available for little or no cost, and we urge you to look at those.

Once you determine which kind of site you want to create, it's time to get set up.

Getting Space on the ASD Web Server

If you would like to have space, you must first have a signed Internet Usage Agreement on file. If you have not signed an IUA, download one and take it to your supervisor or school Technology Coordinator. (If you have a District email account, you have already signed one of these.)

You will also need to read the following two documents:

Anchorage School District Internet Guidelines
Outlines appropriate usage of the District's Internet resources

Anchorage School District Web Design Guidelines
Basic things to keep in mind when creating pages that will be hosted on the District web site

After your IUA has been signed and is on file, email the Webmaster from your District email account to request your web space. You will be assigned a username and password. Be sure to indicate whether the site is a new school or department site, a special project, or a staff/employee site.
