On your hard disk, you’ll see several folders. The Applications folder contains your Mac OS X applications, and the System folder contains the Mac OS X system software. The Library folder contains files used by the Mac OS X system software. The Users folder contains a folder for each user of the computer (known as the user’s home folder).

If your computer came with Mac OS X, or you followed the default installation process and installed Mac OS X on a Mac already running Mac OS 9, you’ll find your Mac OS 9 applications in the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder on your hard disk and your existing documents in the Documents folder. You’ll also see the System Folder that contains Mac OS 9.
