In a Mac OS X window, you’ll notice three colored buttons in the upper-left corner. Clicking the red button closes the window, and clicking the green button increases the size of the window. Clicking the yellow button shrinks the window and puts it in the Dock. This is known as minimizing the window. When you minimize a window, you’ll see a miniature version of it stored as an icon in the right side of the Dock. When you move your pointer over the icon, you’ll see the window’s title. When you click the icon, the window expands and returns to the last place it appeared onscreen. In Mac OS X, you don’t have to bring a window forward to interact with it. If a window is in the background, just move your pointer over the window control buttons and they become active.
