Using Mac OS 9 Applications

Mac OS X can run Mac OS 9 applications in an environment called Classic. However, applications that run in Classic (Classic applications) don’t benefit from all of the new Mac OS X features. You’ll find your Classic applications in the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder on your hard disk. To run Classic applications, you need to have Mac OS 9 installed on your computer. If you upgraded from Mac OS 9 or purchased a new computer with Mac OS X preinstalled, you’ll have Mac OS 9 installed on your Mac.

The first time you open a Classic application, the Classic environment will take a few moments to start up. Once your application starts up, you’ll know you’re using a Classic application because the menu bar and windows will have the Mac OS 9 look and feel.
