In Mac OS X, certain applications lend their services to other applications. For example, you can select a piece of text in a document and convert it to the body of an email message or a sticky note. You can even use a service to attach a file to a new email message.

Mac OS X also provides a valuable service you can use to summarize text. This is a handy way to summarize the contents of an article or a long email message, for example.
