By default, when you turn on your computer, your desktop appears without your having to select your user account and enter your password in the login window. This means that Mac OS X is set to automatically log you in. However, if you use your Mac in a location where others can access it, or you simply share your computer with multiple users, you may not want Mac OS X to automatically log you in. You can easily turn off the automatic login feature in System Preferences. When this option is turned off, you’ll have to select your user account and enter a password every time you start up your Mac.
