Setting Up Your List of Buddies

Before you can start sending instant messages with iChat, you need someone to talk to. Every instant messaging user has a list of people that they communicate with. This list is known as their “buddy list.” To add someone to your buddy list, all you need to know is their Mac.com email address or their AIM screen name.

You can use your iChat buddy list to see which buddies are available to chat with. The way in which buddies appear in your list depends on their status. They might be “available,” “away,” or “offline.” You can send messages to users who are available or away (although you probably won’t get an immediate response from someone who is away). Available buddies appear at the top of your list.
