Middle Link
How the Middle Link Got Its Name
As its name implies, the Middle Link is a bridge between elementary and high school. It is also a reminder of how curriculum at middle school is linked together through interdisciplinary teaching. On March 28, 2005, a presentation was delivered to the Anchorage School Board on the Middle School High Five to help celebrate National Middle School Month. Traci Stanley, Central School of Science 7th grade LA teacher, brought Renata Marmora with her to testify. Renata created an oversized KIM strip with "middle school" as the key word. As a memory clue, she attached a 3D paper chain and eloquently explained how she saw all of her teachers working together as a cohesive unit. She had the opportunity to use the KIM vocabulary strategy in all of her classes and went on to describe how the paper chain links were symbolic of teachers collaborating in order to strengthen her education.
Thank you, Renata, for giving us the inspiration to create this Web site of resources for all middle school staff. |
