No Child Left BehindAYP Results, 2003-2004
Measuring UpOn August 4, 2004 the State of Alaska released a report on the progress our schools are making toward achieving academic proficiency for 100 percent of our students. This report identifies whether schools have made “Adequate Yearly Progress” (AYP) as defined by the state and federal government. More Anchorage schools made AYP this year than last, in fact most schools made AYP. I'm pleased to report that 22 schools that were in "alert status" last year made AYP this year and many more have improved their status! Parents, staff and students in every one of our schools should be proud of the progress they've made. Visit any classroom in this district and you will see thriving students guided by caring, committed staff. To make AYP a school must achieve 31 targets that measure performance, test participation, attendance and graduation. The results table illustrates that we have much to be proud of and areas that need special attention. Be assured that our staff of professional educators continually uses test data and other information to improve instruction and provide each child with the best education possible.
As always, I welcome your comments, suggestions and involvement in our schools. Sincerely, |
