One final round of winners to be named in July

Four more ASD high school seniors were named winners of the 2013 National Merit Scholarship program, bringing the total number of ASD winners this year to eight.

The scholars are:

  • Jeffrey Dow from South High School,
  • Emma Hill from West High School,
  • Samuel McCollum from Service High School, and
  • Abigail Spurlock from West High School.

These students each earned college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships that range from $500 to $2,000 annually for college undergraduate study.

The winners named today are in addition to Anna Clink of West High School, Zoe Danner of Frontier Charter School, Madeline Endres of West High School and Samantha Hartke of Chugiak High School who were named National Merit Scholars earlier this spring.

Scholars are evaluated on their academic records, test scores, leadership in school and community activities, essays, and letters of recommendation from their schools.

One final group of college-sponsored Merit Scholar recipients will be announced on July 15.
