The Anchorage School District’s top priority is the safety of students and staff. District employees share the community’s values and want what is best for students and work each day to provide every student a high-quality education in a safe learning environment.
In the case of M.T. v. Anchorage School District, school administrators took quick and appropriate action to protect the student. Administrators immediately reported the suspicion of improper conduct by a teacher assistant to the Anchorage Police Department and the Office of Children’s Services. The teacher assistant was promptly placed on leave and subsequently terminated.
ASD readily and fully cooperates with APD and provided a complete, unedited set of videos during the course of the investigation. Prior to the filing of the lawsuit, the district’s legal counsel provided video to the plaintiff’s attorney which was FERPA compliant, a federal privacy law applicable to school districts, in order to protect the identity and privacy of other students in the video.
ASD takes the allegations in this matter very seriously. The matter is in litigation and is being addressed through the legal process.
