Site is designed for ease of use, allows for quicker content updates
The Anchorage School District unveiled its new website today. The new site, at www.asdk12.org, offers four main portals: parents, students, community members and employees.
“It has a simple, clean design that focuses on ease of navigation,” said Webmaster Kathy Griffith.
The site was created with a Content Management System (CMS) that will allow content editors across the district in schools and departments to manage their own sites.
“The new CMS gives staff the ability to create and maintain their pages without needing advanced technical skills,” said Griffith. “The end result is that it will be easier for parents, students and the community to find what they’re looking for and that information will be up-to-date.”
The new site will roll out in three phases to allow Web staff to carefully review and update content before moving it to the new system. The first two phases will include going “live” with pages and sections based on needs and priority. Phase I rolled out today. Phase II will bring department pages online as they are completed over the course of this school year. Phase III is scheduled for the 2013-14 school year and includes rolling out the CMS to schools. Currently, schools maintain their own websites through a vendor or with in-house expertise, if available.
