Parents and community members can now sign up to receive SMS text message notifications from the Anchorage School District.
The district will send text notices of school closures and buses that have excessive delays. Schools also have the option to send messages about information or events specific to their school.
The texting option is only available through an opt-in process. Anyone can sign up to receive general district messages, school specific messages or bus route information. The bus information will only notify subscribers of late routes and not information on specific bus stops or riders.
“Parents overwhelmingly asked for the option to receive texts and we’re pleased to offer this to them,” said Superintendent Ed Graff. “Additionally, I know the community is greatly impacted when there is a weather-related school closure and I hope this text option will reach them quickly so they can begin making their alternative plans.”
The SMS text messages will supplement the School Messenger “robocall” phone and email messages parents currently receive. Closure notifications will continue to be shared via the district’s website, customer service line 742-4000, ASD social media accounts, ASD-TV cable channel 14 and local news media.
