Press Release

The Alaska Association of Elementary School Principals is proud to announce our National Distinguished Principal for 2012. Barbara Nagengast is the principal of Homestead Elementary School in Eagle River, Alaska. The 2012 celebration marks the 29th year that the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the U.S. Department of Education have presented this prestigious award.

Principal Nagengast was nominated and selected by her fellow principals through a statewide search process conducted by the Alaska Association of Elementary School Principals.

Barbara has previously held the position of principal at Spring Hill Elementary and Rabbit Creek Elementary in Anchorage. She has been at her current location for five years. She has served as a mentor to principals and teachers in Alaska for sixteen years.

Barbara will travel to Washington DC in October 2012 for two days of activities planned to honor and bring well deserved recognition to the elementary educators selected by their respective states.

Alaska Association of Elementary School Principals believes that Barbara is most deserving of the National Distinguished Principal's award and appreciates her commitment to Alaska's children.
