New principal assignments announced for 2016-17 school year

NEWS RELEASE

One additional principal assignment for the 2016-17 school year was recently approved by the Anchorage school board.

 

 

  • PAIDEIA Charter School - Cheryl Huber, formerly the principal of a private college preparatory school in Puerto Rico. Prior to that position, Huber served as principal of ASD’s SAVE High School.

August 5, 2016

 

  • Inlet View Elementary School – Patricia Ahrens, formerly assistant principal at Chinook, Willow Crest and Creekside Park elementary schools; and
  • Rogers Park Elementary School – Nuri Johnsen, formerly assistant principal at Mountain View and Wonder Park elementary schools.

 

The following schools were appointed acting principals for the upcoming school year. A principal selection process, including an opportunity for parent and community feedback, will be conducted for the 2017-18 school year.

 

  • Klatt Elementary School – David Christal, formerly assistant principal at Gladys Wood and Susitna elementary schools;
  • Williwaw Elementary School – Likka McCauley, formerly assistant principal at Williwaw and North Star elementary schools; and
  • King Career Center – James Bell, formerly assistant principal at the school

 

These positions will be presented to the school board at its August 15 meeting for approval.


July 28, 2016 

Additional principal assignments for the 2016-17 school year were recently announced, including:

 

  • Fire Lake Elementary School – Christine Garbe, formerly principal at Williwaw Elementary School
  • North Star Elementary School – Julie Sery, formerly assistant principal at Fairview Elementary School
  • Orion Elementary School – Brenda Cheathon, formerly assistant principal at Sand Lake Elementary School
  • Sand Lake Elementary School – Linson Thompson, formerly principal at Klatt Elementary School

 

These positions will be presented to the school board at its August 1 meeting for approval. 


July 12, 2016 

 

Two new principal assignments for the 2016-17 school year were recently announced, including:

 

  • Bear Valley Elementary – Lisa Huffman,formerly principal at Sand Lake Elementary School; and
  • Susitna Elementary School – Diane Hoffbauer, formerly assistant superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.

 

These positions will be presented to the school board at its August 1 meeting for approval. The Sand Lake position will be announced at a later date.


June 27, 2016

 

Several new principal assignments for the 2016-17 school year were recently announced, including:

 

  • Girdwood K-8 School – Erik Viste, formerly assistant principal at Taku and Rogers Park elementary schools
  • Homestead Elementary School – Jane Shepherd Stuart, formerly executive director of ASD’s Assessment and Evaluation Department
  • Ravenwood Elementary School – Kim Bautista, formerly principal of Susitna Elementary School

 

The Girdwood and Ravenwood positions will be presented to the school board for approval at its August 1 meeting. The Homestead position was approved by the school board at an earlier meeting.

 

Principal appointments at Bear Valley and Susitna elementary schools, and PAIDEIA Charter School will be announced at a later date.


June 7, 2016

 

Several new principal assignments for the 2016-17 school year were recently approved by the administration and Anchorage School Board. The new assignments are:

 

  • Chugach Optional Elementary School – Clare Fulp, formerly principal of Ravenwood Elementary School
  • Gladys Wood Elementary School – Cindy Hemry, formerly principal of Girdwood K-8 School
  • Mirror Lake Middle School – Alexandra Hagler, formerly assistant principal at Bartlett High School
  • Rilke Schule Charter School – Christopher Barr,formerly principal at Akiachak School in Akiachak, Alaska
  • Service High School – Frank Hauser, formerly assistant principal at Dimond High School
  • Stream Academy Charter School – Adam Mokelke, formerly the principal at Burchell High School in the Mat-Su Borough School District
  • Winterberry Charter School – Robert Young, formerly a principal in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District

 

Principal appointments at Girdwood K-8 School, Ravenwood Elementary School and PAIDEIA Charter School will be announced at a later date.
