Principals receive top honors in the state

Anchorage, Ak - Cessilye Williams, principal of Clark Middle School in Anchorage, has been selected as the Alaska Secondary School Principal of the Year by the Alaska Association of Secondary School Principals. Principal Williams has served as a principal for fifteen years, thirteen of which have been at Clark Middle School.
"Everybody loves her. She is always in the hall making sure we are in class on time and she always tells every student good morning." said a Clark Middle School student who wrote an essay for Principal Williams' application.
According to Principal Williams, Clark Middle School is in one of Anchorage's most culturally diverse neighborhoods. Clark Middle School has the highest number of minority students, special education students, and the highest number of student achievers. As Alaska’s Principal of the year Principal Williams is also a nominee for the National Association of Secondary School Principals National Principal of the Year which will be announced in the fall.
Carrie Sumner, assistant principal at Begich Middle School in Anchorage, has been selected as the Alaska Assistant Principal of the Year. The selection committee cited Assistant Principal Sumner's commitment, creativity, and collaborative leadership style in making their selection.
Both principals will be honored during the 2015 Alaska Principals Conference. The Alaska Principals conference will be held at the Anchorage Sheraton Hotel October 18-20, 2015.This year’s conference theme is The Passionate Present Principal and will feature keynote speakers Principal Baruti Kafele, John Hope Bryant, and Carol Comeau.
