Perez-Verdia said the meeting restructure is one of many steps to come that align the board’s efforts around student achievement moving forward.
The board, working with Ray and Associates executive search firm, released the timeline it will follow to select the district’s next superintendent.
The dates are subject to change based on the applications received and other factors involving the finalist candidates.
During the applicant review and interview process, board president Kameron Perez-Verdia said the board is incorporating the feedback provided by staff, parents and the community through the ad-hoc superintendent search advisory committee. The committee held public meetings and coordinated an online survey which had 1,940 participants. The survey focused on the most important skills, characteristics and experiences the next superintendent should possess. The committee provided a report to the board which summarized the feedback it received.
“The board is pleased with the input we gathered from the public. That translated into a very successful recruitment process,” said Perez-Verdia. “We received more than 80 applications. We have a very strong and impressive pool of candidates, both from inside and outside of Alaska.”
