Superintendent may leave his post in near future

Browder seeking relocation due to family medical issues

The Anchorage School Board announced that Superintendent Jim Browder is pursuing employment opportunities outside of Alaska in order to be closer to members of his immediate family who are dealing with significant medical issues.

“This is a very serious personal situation for Jim and his family and our hearts go out to them,” said board President Jeannie Mackie. “We understand that family must come first.”

“In the short time Jim has been at ASD, he has brought about significant change and has worked with the board to develop Destination 2020, the district’s long-term strategic plan. This plan highlights initiatives which we will continue to implement.”

The board and superintendent are working together to set a timeline for succession. Until the board announces a new appointment, Browder will continue to lead the district.

“We as a board are very confident in our senior leadership staff at ASD as well as the course that the board and administration have set for our future. We will have a smooth transition when the time comes,” said Mackie.
