|
|
As part of AT&T's nationwide Aspire initiative to strengthen
student success and workforce readiness, THE AT&T Foundation has
donated $100,000 to two Alaska school districts. Donations of $50,000
each were made to the Anchorage School District and the Bering Straits
School District.
"The success of our youth affects us all - from the students
themselves to our need for an educated workforce," said Mike Felix,
president, AT&T Alaska. "With this program, we're helping Alaska
school districts look for ways to encourage students to stay motivated
to graduate and to see how their choices today can lead to better
futures."

West High wins 9th straight We the People competition
|
|
For the ninth year in a row, West Anchorage High School students won the state We the People competition. The West team will now compete in the National Finals in Washington D.C. On April
24-26, 2010.
The 2009 West High team took top honors at last year's national competition for Unit IV - Constitution Shapes Institutions. The
team successfully argued the question: "How did the values and
principles embodied in the Constitution shape American institutions and
practices?". The West team has placed a total of five times at the national level.
The We the People competition involves entire classes making presentations
and answering questions on constitutional topics before a panel of
judges recruited from across the country.
Four other ASD High Schools competed at the state level this year: Dimond, Service, Steller and South.
