learning services
 Students new to America and those
with limited or no English-language skills have a lot on their minds, not the
least of which is how to keep up with their studies. There's a new culture to

Class of 2010 graduated with more than $27 million in scholarships

The Anchorage School District's graduating class of 2010,
made up of
3,255 seniors, has been offered at least $27,455,498 in scholarships and
awards from local and national universities, companies and
organizations. Students likely received additional scholarship monies
that were not reported to their respective schools.

benefit from the STEP Center's lending library and staff
As part of the district's
Special Education Department, the ASD STEP Center is a powerful tool for STudents, Educators and Parents.
Its staff provides a service-oriented approach to problem solving and helps
families identify community and district resources for a wide range of
disabilities. The STEP Center library also has resources on parenting strategies for all families.

Capital Request Advisory Committee seeks to fill vacancies
The Capital Request Advisory Committee (CRAC) is an advisory
committee
to the Anchorage School District Administration comprised,
in part, of
volunteer citizens who are:
interested in improving the district's programs and
physical
plant; willing to visit school sites in their
representation area and
sites throughout the district, as necessary; willing and able to review capital
planning materials and attend meetings regularly;
willing to participate in reasonable
negotiation with other
members of the committee regarding priority setting
for projects
across the district; committed to communicating with the
community about facility
needs and priorities of district; not employees of the Anchorage School
District.

Dimond earns Project Lead the Way certification
|

Program emphasizes practical application of Science, Technology, Education and Math curriculum
Dimond High School has received national
certification for the Project Lead The Way program
that it has been offering since 2006. Project Lead The Way offers a rigorous curriculum that allows students to
apply what they are learning in math and science class to real-life
engineering and technology projects. The certification program recognizes
schools that have successfully demonstrated a commitment to the quality
national standards of the Pathway To Engineering program and to
provide an opportunity for students to apply for college credit at PLTW
