Student success: Energy saving kit program
|
|
ASD and the Loussac Library recently launched a free energy saving kit
program. The program is the brainchild
of South High School student Garrison Wilts, who
developed the program for his Eagle Scout candidacy. The program
places two Kill-A-Watt meters in each district middle school and high
school library and seven meters in the Loussac Library. The meters are
available for public check-out and are designed to help people
determine how much energy is being used by appliances and electronics
in their house, including the "phantom" energy used when a cell phone
charger is plugged in but not charging a device. The meters were
donated by the Norcross Wildlife Foundation and the South Anchorage
Home Depot.
The program is proving so popular that, as of early October, Loussac Library had a 73-person waiting list for the meters.
For more information, visit your local middle or high school, or call Loussac Library at 343-2975.
