Children benefit most when schools and parents work together
Parent Involvement Initiative
In August, ASD invited the Sacramento School District's Parent Teacher Home Visit Project trainers to work with staff at nine preschools and four elementary schools as part of the district's new Parent Involvement initiative.
When a stimulus grantbecame available to formalize a limited home-visit effort by some schools, ASD jumped at the chance.

The program is designed to encourage parent participation in their child's education.

Synthetic marijuana masquerades as "herbal incense"

Use of legal but dangerous drug Spice on the rise

Synthetic marijuana, also called Spice or K-2, is sold in local stores. It can cause dangerous side effects and is not allowed in ASD schools.
Synthetic marijuana is packaged with many different labels and names.
Spice, also known as K2, is a plant material similar to marijuana that is laced with synthetic compound chemicals. Because the product is unregulated, it is legal to purchase and is growing in popularity as an alternative to marijuana. Many times the product packaging lists the substance as herbal incense and sometimes includes information that it is "not for human consumption."

The product may cause adverse side effects and has sent many teens to the emergency room.

Though the product is currently legal to purchase, it is NOT allowed in ASD schools. Students caught with, or using, the substance will face disciplinary action.
