ABC Schools
A basic curriculum school’s characteristics include self-contained classrooms, structured curriculum, character development, firm and consistent discipline, and regular homework.

AVAIL
Anchorage Vocational Academic Institute of Learning (AVAIL) is an alternative program for students who have dropped out of high school. This program assists with development of pre-employment skills and provides remedial academic instruction with an emphasis on obtaining a high school diploma.
Benny Benson/SEARCH
Benny Benson Secondary School is for middle and high school
students who have not experienced success in the standard school
setting. Benson has a strict discipline policy and firm requirements for regular attendance, good behavior and consistent academic performance. Individual learning concerns are taken into account. Students in grades 10-12 attend school half of the day and are required to have a part-time job or attend a vocational class at
the King Career Center for the other half of the day.
Central Middle School of Science
Central Middle School of Science is for students and parents who believe
in a rigorous academic program with an emphasis on active
participation. Students learn through traditional class
work, independent study, and group research. At the heart
of the program is the math and science curriculum. The
math program allows students to work at their appropriate
level and includes classes through geometry as well as
higher level independent classes. The science curriculum
is taught through a thematic, hands-on, experiment-based
discovery program.
Continuation School
Continuation School is an individualized, online instructional program for middle and high school students expelled from the Anchorage School District for violations of school policy. The program provides students with core academic instruction designed to meet the requirements for promotion to the next grade level and progress towards graduation. The program allows a student to continue to receive academic instruction while he or she is completing requirements for reinstatement into the school district.
Continuation Evening Program is an alternative program for employed high school students needing an evening time to complete credits for an Anchorage School District diploma. The program also accepts motivated 9-12 graders who need remedial courses to stay on track to graduate. Students who have obtained a Certificate of Achievement and would like to pass the High School Graduation Qualifying Exam, may also access the program for focused assistance.
Creating Optimal High School Opportunities (COHO)
High school students in the Chugiak and Eagle River areas have an alternative to the traditional high school classroom. Through COHO (Creating Optimal High School Opportunities) students can earn high school credits through online and self-paced courses. These online courses are available to any ASD student throughout the district. The program is located on the Chugiak High School campus but has its own classrooms and staff and a separate entrance. Crossroads
Crossroads is the Anchorage School District’s instructional setting
for pregnant and parenting teens. Crossroads provides
a supportive instructional environment which allows students to continue
their education while
pregnant and parenting . A complete program of instruction
is provided with an emphasis on core academics. The program utilizes
online instruction
to compliment traditional coursework to meet the academic
needs of the students. Maternity health is offered and community support
contacts
are available for students. The staff at Crossroads is
committed to providing quality instruction in an environment that fosters
regular
school attendance and student responsibility for learning.
