Elementary Open Optional Programs
Open optional school characteristics include open, flexible space classrooms, continuous progress grading, interdisciplinary curriculum with emphasis on student need and interest, individualized learning, flexible schedules, and self-discipline.
Gifted
Options are available for identified gifted elementary and secondary students. For more information, contact the Gifted Program, 742-3794.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Career Center (KCC)
KCC offers high school students in grades 10-12 vocational/technical training in 26 occupations. Further information is available by calling KCC at 742-8900.
Montessori
At Denali Montessori School, students in grades K-6 learn in an open classroom stressing individualized self-directed learning in a specially prepared environment. For more information, call 742-4500.
Multi-Sensory Instruction
Multi-Sensory Instruction (MSI) is designed for students who struggle in reading, writing and/or spelling. Students learn the process and rules needed to spell, and to read and write words. MyHigh
MyHigh is an online program providing high school students opportunities to earn credit through online course work. Online coursework provides flexibility in learning, meets the needs of individual learning styles, and fits non-traditional schedules. MyHigh courses provide new options to students and families for scheduling, paced learning, course and curriculum access, and the increasing use of technology as a tool. Polaris K-12 School
Polaris is an education program that emphasizes self-directed learning and interdisciplinary curricula for grades K-12.
SAVE High School
Specialized Academic Vocational Education High School is designed for students who have fallen behind in credits by one or more semesters. Students who are in grades 11-12 and are at least 16 years old are eligible for SAVE. This is a work/study program that combines work experience and regular high school academic requirements for completion of a high school diploma. Students go to three classes each day; the other half of their educational day is spent gaining on-the-job work experience or in a King Career Center vocational class.
