Immunization Requirements
Alaska Regulations require that all students be immunized (4 AAC 06.055)

Children age six (6) years and younger:
|
Four (4) doses of DTP and/or DT vaccine are required. Most children need five
(5) doses.

An additional dose of DTP/DT vaccine is required if:
-
at least six months do not separate dose #3 and last dose;
-
at least six months do not separate dose #3 and last dose;
-
dose #1 was given before six weeks of age, or the last dose was given before the
4th birthday.
-
Six to twelve months may separate dose #3 and last dose.
-
A child who has received six or more doses of DTP vaccine, regardless of age or
spacing, does not require additional doses. A medical exemption for
Pertussis vaccine is required, if DT is given.

Three (3) doses of Polio vaccine are required.
|

An additional dose of Polio vaccine is required if:
-
at least one month does not separate dose #1, #2 and #3;
-
dose #1 was given before six weeks of age;
-
the child is in grade Kdg. or higher. If dose #3 was given after age four,
another dose is not needed.
A child who has 4 doses with 4 weeks between each dose does not require more
regardless of age.

Two (2) doses of MMR vaccine are required in grade kindergarten or
higher. (measles, mumps, rubella)

An additional dose of MMR vaccine is required if:
-
dose #1 was given before the first birthday or one month does not separate dose
#1 and #2.

One dose of MMR is required for preschool.

Two (2) doses of Hepatitis A vaccine are required after two years of age.

Dose #2 must be given at least six to twelve months after dose #1. If dose #2
is given early, another dose is required. (the 2nd hep A is usually given at the
same time as the 3rd hep B, when possible)

Three (3) doses of Hepatitis B vaccine are required.

Timing/Spacing options include: 0m, 1m, 6m; 0m, 2m, 4m; or 0m, 1m, 4m.

Minimum spacing is one month between dose #1 and #2, two months between dose #2
and #3
AND
-
overall there must be at least four months between dose #1 and #3. If doses are
given early, another dose is required. (The 3rd hep B is usually given at the
same time as the 2nd hep A, when possible.)

| *Varicella vaccine or history of varicella disease
(chickenpox) and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) are required for
preschool. |
Students age seven (7) years and older:
|
Three (3) doses of DTP, DT and/or Td vaccine are required.

Pertussis is not required after age 7 years.
