Bond information

April 2010
Proposition 1 failed
Completes renovation and addition to Service High School - $37,132,000

This proposal was designed to significantly reduce the burden on taxpayers by including matching funds needed to secure a $21 million state grant necessary to complete the project. In addition, voters were asked to authorize redirection of $10 million of previously voter-approved but unsold bonds from 2007-08 for this project. The project completes renewal of core areas of school as identified in its master plan as well as expanding the auditorium to the same size that's installed in other Anchorage high schools.

April 2009
Proposition 1 failed
Proposition 1 would have funded $66,700,000 for the following additions and renovation at Service High School:

  • Career and education classrooms; library and instructional media center; special education area; performing arts classrooms; cafeteria and food service area; physical education area; 700-seat auditorium; administrative offices; automatic fire sprinkler system
  • The proposed plan is designed to reduce the construction timeline by 20 percent compared to the original outline in the master plan phasing project and expects to create overall construction cost savings. Upon completion of construction, operations and maintenance costs are expected to decline due to implementation of sustainable building practices and energy conservation measures, including improved insulation and digitally-controlled boilers and fans.
