Public presentation
Residents were invited to attend a public forum or "charrette" on March 17-18, 2009, to respond to a Pre-Planning Vision Report and offer input on the planning process.
Charrettes are intensive, interactive design sessions where design professionals work in collaboration with school and community members to explore design options. In the recent charrette held in the West-Romig Library the goals of the exercise were unique in that we were not attempting to develop a final design solution.
The charrette’s specific goal was to explore planning options that would interpret and reflect the May 2008 Vision Report’s goals and the district’s educational program specifications. Through this exploration we sought to discover opportunities and obstacles of incorporating those goals into a renewed West-Romig campus. Each design team was charged with approaching the Master Plan from a different perspective such as: changing the entrance to the campus, maintaining as much of the existing buildings as possible, exploring multiple stories, etc. By approaching the problem from these varied perspectives, we could expose many more opportunities and obstacles.
Particularly valuable are the public comments and reactions to the ideas generated in these sessions.
The public will have more opportunity for input throughout the process. Check back here on the ASD Web site for discussion and forum dates and times.
