 My name is Dan Carey, and I teach Applied Technology. One of nine children, I came to Alaska with my family shortly after the ’64 earthquake. My father was in construction, and it was from him that I learned to love working with my hands. I grew up surrounded by sawdust and the noise of my many brothers and sisters. Some things never change. As an Applied Technology teacher, I'm still surrounded by dust, noise, and the excitement of hands-on learning.
I've been teaching for the Anchorage School District for over 25 years. I began my career as an elementary school teacher, but for the past few years have enjoyed teaching middle school Applied Technology. Applied Tech is a combination of science, engineering, career education, and traditional “Shop”.
I live in NE Anchorage with my wife and our two teenage children. We enjoy the Alaskan outdoors, hunting, fishing, and x-country skiing. When school’s not in session, we enjoy spending our time in Soldotna, covered in sawdust, building the never-ending cabin. |
