I am honored to have been selected to be an Assistant Principal at Nicholas Begich Middle School. I am looking forward to the countless rewards of working with the students, staff, families, and community members to make Begich’s first year an amazing one. I am also very excited to take on the challenges associated with opening a brand new school.
I was raised in Anchorage and am an Anchorage School District graduate. I attended college both at the University of Alaska Anchorage and at Université Laval in Québec, Canada, where I majored in French and secondary education. I started my teaching career at Goldenview Middle School when it opened in 1997. There, I taught both French and social studies. I lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 2002-2004, where I earned a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota in curriculum and instruction, with specialization in second languages and cultures education and language immersion education. When I returned to Anchorage in 2004, I resumed teaching French, first at Central Middle School of Science, and for the past two years, at South Anchorage High School. I recently completed a second master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Alaska and served as an administrative intern at Mears Middle School this past spring.
When I am not immersed with life at school, my wife and I love to travel the world. I also enjoy biking, hiking, photography, and collecting antiques. Thanks to my wife, I have a new found interest in running and will do my first race in two weeks! |
