 I think of myself as many things. The first is a country farm boy from rural southwestern Wisconsin. While my life has taken many turns in adulthood, the years I spent as a child learning to work hard and appreciate the life around me has never disappeared. I now spend many hours walking with my yellow lab in the mountains surrounding Anchorage pondering the wonders of Alaska. I also consider myself as someone who likes to learn, especially about far off places and distant times. One of my greatest joys is sharing this with others, and that is one of the reasons why I became a teacher. I also believe myself to be an aspiring citizen. As a Peace Corps Volunteer in South America, as the Director of an AmeriCorps program in Northeastern Minnesota, and starting a community school in Minneapolis, I've seen the impact working together can have in communities. I also know that we can always do more. Lastly, two of the most important things that I am are rather new. I am lucky enough to have found a wonderful wife, and come this November (2006) we will have our first child. Life is good!
