South Anchorage High SchoolIn April 1999, the voters approved funding for the design and construction of a new High School in South Anchorage to serve approximately 1600 students. This school is built on a 50-acre site between Huffman and DeArmoun Roads south of Leyden Road with current access at the southwestern end of Elmore Road. The design of the school follows the standards of the High School Educational Specifications (Ed Specs) adopted by the Anchorage School District in 1998. These Ed Specs aim to create forward-looking facilities for students in the 21st century. Both Service and Dimond have been experiencing significant growth. This school qualifies for DOE reimbursement with the reduction of capacity at Dimond to 1,600. This project is projected was completed in the fall of 2004 and opened to students for school year 2004-2005.
