Service High School Plans

In April 1997 voters approved funding for planning and preliminary design for the renovation and renewal of Service High School. The 1997-98 planning process included development of the District-wide High School Educational Specifications, which the School Board approved on June 8, 1998.

During the summer and fall of 1998 work began on the development of a Master Plan and Supplement to the District-wide High School Educational Specifications required for the upgrade and renewal of Service High School. The Supplement to the Educational Specifications was intended to: provide site specific information not contained in the standard Specifications; indentify selected standard Specification options; and document variances to the standard Specifications for approval by the Department of Education and the School Board. The variances were necessary to allow the additional Service High School building area required for compliance with the District-wide High School Educational Specifications.

On May 22, 2000 the School Board approved the Conceptual Master Plan and the Supplement to the District-wide High School Educational Specifications for Service High School. In order to minimize school disruption, the Master Plan has identified four design and construction phases for the renovation and upgrade of Service High School.

Phase 1A Work (Funded April 2000)

Design: Fall and Winter 2000/2001
Construction: Spring and Summer 2001
General Scope: Site Improvements include added fourth drive, additional parking at east parking lot, reconfigure the visitor parking/drop-off and move portables to front yards.


Phase 1B Work (Funded April 2000)

Design: Winter and Summer 2000/2001
Construction: Spring and Summer 2002
General Scope: Renovation of Science Rooms at Building H


Phase 2A Work (Depending on Funding Availability)

Design: Spring 2001 to Summer 2002
Construction: Spring 2003 to Fall 2004
General Scope: Renovation of Building G, installation of sprinklers, construction of new boiler plant and electrical service.


Phase 2B Work (Depending on Funding Availability)

Design: Spring 2002 to Summer 2003
Construction: Spring 2004 to Fall 2005
General Scope: Renovation of Building D


Phase 3 Work (Depending on Funding Availability)

Design: Spring 2003 to Fall 2004
Construction: Spring 2005 to Fall 2006
General Scope: Demolish existing Administration Area and construct a new IMC (Library); renovate the existing business, foreign language and social studies wing into a new Administrative Area; and renovate the existing Visual Arts Area.


Phase 4 Work (Depending on Funding Availability)

Design: Spring 2004 to Fall 2005
Construction: Spring 2006 to Fall 2007
General Scope: Construct a new commons, Kitchen, Small Gym and Aerobics Area. Renovate the existing Commons into a new Auditorium.
