Amber Thomas

My name is Amber Thomas and I am Inupiaq from Barrow, Alaska. I graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelors of Science in American Studies and American Indian Studies. I am the Indian Education Community Counselor.

Students must be Alaska Native/Native American and have filled out the 506 Form to receive services from our program. I am here to make sure native students at Begich Middle School reach their true potential. I plan to do this by providing the following services:

1. Open communication between teachers, parents/guardians, and students
2. Tracking absences & tardies
3. Observing grades and missing assignments
4. Offer tutoring
5. Exposing students to extra curricular activities
6. Providing positive mentors and role models
7. Weekly native student gatherings
8. Cultural events that educate and promote native pride
