Grant Information
We're off to a good start this year with excellent fall weather for our pond visits. We were able to study the pond invertebrates first in the classroom with pond water brought in by a parent. We found many of the invertebrates we had studied. Then we took a pond walk with dipnets and collected invertebrates and fish. After tallying them, we put most of them back into the water. We used our hand lenses and several kinds of microscopes including a microprojector to view these invertebrates. It was an exciting experience. We hope to visit the pond in the spring to see what we can collect at that time.
Mr. LaForest of CR Services put up a beautiful structure for our Wetlands project. You can see what it looks like in the picture below. The cub scouts from our class stained the sign this fall, so it will be protected from the weather. We are presently working on the drawings and paintings that will be placed into the interpretive structure for all to enjoy. Mr. Oliver's Eagle Eye Photography has provided the photos of the invertebrates and wildlife found in the area.
Students from our school enjoy walking around the pond in the Fall and Spring. In the Winter, students cross-country ski around the pond.
On the left, is our sign and poster. The flowerbox was added during the summer by the Scouts under the supervision of Mr. and Mrs. Booker. On the right is a picture of Bayshore Pond with the Bayshore Subdivision in the background. The sign is located at the beginning of the path which leads to this pond.
