An important part of our school is the office staff. They include Mrs. McKinney, our administrative assistant and Mrs. Reed, our secretary. Another important staff member is Mrs. Webb, our school nurse.
We are fortunate to have a wonderful office staff that takes care of the paperwork, scheduling, ordering and record keeping necessary to keep a school running smoothly. It would take a whole page to list all the little things they do in addition to their regular duties to make the office a pleasant place for parents, students, visitors and other staff members to visit. There's always a friendly smile and a warm welcome for anyone who visits the office. They're always kept very busy so... the Bayshore Web Editor decided to write this paragraph for them. After all, what administrative assistant or secretary would find time in their busy schedule to create a home page for themselves?
We are proud to announce that our administrative assistant, Sandy McKinney was the ASD Employee of the Month for the month of February. Congratulations Sandy! It's an honor you well deserve.
School nursing is a unique discipline and service, with its own knowledge base and area of responsibility. The school health services program strives to provide accessible, quality care for every child. School nursing services include: the identification and follow-up of health problems; crisis intervention for ill and injured students; the control of communicable diseases within the school environment, and special nursing services. When students enter the school district requiring health related services, school nurses and health attendants provide those services so that the student can access and benefit from the educational program.
A school nurse is a registered nurse with a baccalaureate in nursing, currently licensed under Alaska statutes. The school nurse also has completed the additional educational requirements for and possesses a current special services certificate for school nursing (Type C.)
I am very happy to be the nurse at Bayshore this year. Bayshore feels like home to me. My oldest daughter started school at Bayshore in 1986, and my youngest child started in 1992. Over the years I have been involved with PTA, been a parent helper in the classroom and also worked as a substitute school nurse. My position is considered 75%, so my hours are generally 8:45 AM through 2:15 PM, Monday through Friday.
This year my goals include increasing public awareness about the role of the school nurse at Bayshore through the use of the internet, as well as promoting and facilitating employee health at Bayshore.
