Care and Feeding of Your Cross-country Skier
Skiing conditions the body by placing demands on it. To meet these demands skiers need to eat high quality foods several time each day.
Carbohydrates are especially useful at breakfast and shortly before practice. Proteins and vitamins from fruits, vegetables, and other whole foods are also important to help the body store energy, build muscle, and recover from workouts.
Skiers should eat substantial breakfasts, lunches, and have a healthy snack shortly after practice. Water is also important. Drinking water throughout the day and practice can help promote recovery and prevent sickness.
