To join the team, athletes must meet the Anchorage School District's participation requirements. Information on the requirements is on the ASD Web Page.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Practice starts at 2:30 Monday-Friday directly outside the ski room. Athletes need to be dressed for outdoor activity outside the ski room at that time. Any absences must be prearranged with the head coach. Missing practices or a race without notifying the coach in advance is cause for dismissal from the team.

PARTICIPATION AWARD POLICY

To earn a participation award at the end of the season, athletes must attend all regularly scheduled practices and compete in all regular season races once they have achieved the minimum ten practices required to compete. Practices can be missed for illness or academic activities if prearranged with the head coach. Athletes must attend at least three practices during the week and the races to earn a participation award. Team gear can only be provided to athletes missing two practice each week when the ski, jacket, and uniform needs of those practicing four and five time each week have been met.

LETTERING POLICY

With the exception of prearranged academic absences (one per week), illness, and emergencies, athletes who wish to earn a varsity award must participate in all scheduled practices and races during the regular season and the practices scheduled over winter break. Candidates for varsity awards must also maintain a team training log over the course of the season and submit it to the head coach the week of the region championships. Workouts and data on weights and strength training will be recorded in the log on a daily basis throughout the season. In addition to the above requirements, to earn a varsity award an athlete must either compete on the A team in three regular season races or earn an A team spot and compete in the region and state championships.

TEAM GEAR POLICY

The ski team provides team jackets and racing uniforms to team members who want them as outlined in the participation policies. Racers are not required to wear spandex uniforms if they don't want to as long as they are adequately protected from the weather on race day. Skiers are responsible for each jacket and uniform piece checked out to them. Fine slips will be turned into the office at the end of the year for any uniform piece lost or damaged. Team gear will be distributed based on attendance, time trial results, and team seniority some time in the first month of practice.

The ski team also has an assortment of used ski equipment that has built up over the years. This equipment helps new and returning skiers enjoy the sport without spending a bunch of money and makes the decides if some team members can take part in the sport at all. Because of this, team gear needs to be treated well. Team skis are not to be used in destructive activities. The team ski broken jumping is one that could make it possible for a kid to join the team sometime down the road. Skiers who bring in skis with "suspicious" breaks may not be eligible for any more team skis.

If you must jump, see a coach about putting together jump specific skis from the broken sets in the ski room and then don't get caught doing it when you're supposed to be doing intervals or skiing good distance.
